What's in My Speech Therapy Bag?

It is August and time to share another great activity from my speech therapy bag!

This activity is one of my "go to" activities for all ages because it is fun, a way to show creativity, and is filled with many speech and language targets!

What is it??? This month's activity is MARBLE RUN!!!

A child playing marble run

The creativity that comes with building a marble run and the joy and fun that is observed with children engaging in this activity is amazing! I have children who love building with all the funnel pieces. I have children who want a small one and I have children who want to build the biggest one ever!! And then there is every child who wants to have all the marbles go down at once!

The learning targets for this activity can serve both speech and language purposes. Here are some suggestions:

  • Vocabulary- "on, go, down, whee, marble/ball, colors, big, little, me, you, I, fast, slow"

  • Sentence Expansion- "Put it on", "Go down", "More on", "Go ball", "Make big/little one", "That one", "I/You do it".

  • Requesting- "Help me", "Put it on", "More on", "Take off"

Other skills you can target with marble run:

  • Following Directions

  • Quantitative Concepts (i.e. who has more marbles, who has less marbles, etc)

  • Have a marble race to target social skills

I hope you enjoyed this activity idea. Come back next month to see what I have to share with you!
